During the coming weeks the design of this blog will most likely be subjected to unethical experimenting and technical abuse. The thing is, I need a testbed of some sort for a blog project I’m currently involved in and my blog is the best one I could come up with. So expect some strange headings and sections that aren’t usually here and, well, maybe a couple of nasty fonts or so.
I watched “The Running Man” from the year of the unabomber, 1987, last night. A couple of reflections.
First of all, the movie is about six or eight years too late. If you’re into producing dystopian fiction about future police states and conglomerates ruling them, you must realise that it was charming in a kitch way during the administrations of the antichrists of 1981, or so. But in 1987?
Second, what’s up with casting both the Governator and Jesse Ventura in the same movie? I mean, gaw, we know that the second half of the eighties was one of the least memorable periods of our time, but have you no fucking decency!
I guess the only thing left to do is to quote the wonderful character played by the Schwarzengovernator:
Ben Richards: I’m not into politics. I’m into survival.
Right…

It seems like the Blogsome team has finally fixed the time zone problem. So goodbye to UTC and hello to posts dated accurately. Nice…
Lt. Amos: See, that’s the difference between a great investigator like me, and a piece of spam like you.
Ford Fairlane: Spam? You’re a piece of spam. That’s what I think of you.
Lt. Amos: No, I call you a piece of spam, ‘cos that’s what you are.
Ford Fairlane: Spam.

It’s been a few days now since my last post. I’ve been busy with all kinds of stuff so I thought I’d start by posting some of my recent del.icio.us links.
Ok, I think that was all. Unfortunately I haven’t kept record of all the sources (I guess that’s something to keep in mind using the del.icio.us), but you can probably use Technorati to find that out.

About The Freesound Project:
The Freesound Project aims to create a huge collaborative database of audio snippets, samples, recordings, bleeps, … released under the Creative Commons Sampling Plus License. The Freesound Project provides new and interesting ways of accessing these samples, allowing users to
- browse the sounds in new ways using keywords, a “sounds-like” type of browsing and more
- up and download sounds to and from the database, under the same creative commons license
- interact with fellow sound-artists!
And it all comes tagged and free of RIAA and all of the other Antichrist organisations of the media industry.

I have no idea if this is actually true or not, but if it is, it has got to be one of the cooler Gmail hacks around:
it’s possible to install linux on gmail. richard jones wrote some python that allows you to mount linux within gmail. you can use all kinds of unix commands to communicate with gmail like ls, rm, grep, cp, etc. it’s an ongoing project in development but it’s very cool and allows you basically a 2gb virtual drive of sorts.

While emailing a friend a somewhat nerdsy but suitable analogy came to me.
Do you remember being bored to death trying to calculate the slope of a graph between two point in algebra (sorry for the schizo description, but I was not exactly a wiz on the subject. Wikipedia is telling me about slope-intercept…)? Pick two points and you can determine whether the slope is positive or negative and how steep. Not too different from life in certain situations. When you lose sight of that other point, your life seems to lack direction. You can’t tell if you’re going down or up. Right now spring treats me like that.

Unfortunately Blogsome seems to have severe stability problems at the moment. If you’re having problems getting the blog to load properly/at all, please try again within a couple of hours.

discombobulated v. To throw into a state of confusion.
Dictionary.com
UPDATE: I’m not sure that this’ll work, but I’ve got a Technorati watchlist item on “discombobulated” which you can add to your aggregator using this adress. Not very useful? Right. Just tell me if this is (1) voilating Technorati policy or if (2) the sheit doesn’t work.

Check out this interesting Gmail feature:
How do I view Gmail messages with my aggregator?
You can view Gmail messages in your aggregator by subscribing to a new channel. Enter https://gmail.google.com/gmail/feed/atom in the ‘URL’ field, then submit your Gmail address and password.
Please keep in mind that Gmail messages won’t appear in your aggregator unless there are unread messages in your inbox.

I realized last night that having older friends can sometimes be a little strange. I’m in my early twenties (for whatever it’s worth) and I have a few older friends — some just ten years older than me, some twenty or more.
So last night, while watching a soccer game, I received this SMS :
From: +46 0 …
Good night and sleep tight.
Dad.
The most obvious revelation was that I have friends who actually send messages like that. The guy in question has a son whose first name starts with the same letter as mine, hence the mistake. The second revelation I had was how disturbing it was to receive a message like that from someone
other than my dad. I don’t know, but unwarranted freckin’ insights into the inner personal sphere (with extra malreference) have so not become fashion yet.
